Washington, DC (January 16, 2013) -- National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial received the King Legacy Award for National Service at the 22nd Annual International Salute to the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“In this 50th anniversary year of the March for Jobs and Justice and Dr. King’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech, we at the National Urban League have urged our leaders in Washington to honor his legacy with a comprehensive jobs program,” Morial said. “I’m humbled and honored to receive this award and I thank the committee for all its efforts.”
The International Salute has been held annually since 1992 as a way of sharing Dr. King’s historical work at home and abroad, bringing together a broad segment of the global community to reinforce the importance of continuing the work begun by Dr. King.
Previous winners of the King Legacy Award are General Colin Powell, Congressman John Lewis and Senator Bob Dole.
