Post Hurricane Sandy Update from the National Urban League President and CEO

Dear Colleagues:

I want to give you an update on the operations of the National Urban League post Hurricane Sandy. First, I would like to thank everyone for your prayers and concern during this crisis. As you have seen in the media, areas of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut have been completely devastated by this super storm. Our prayers go out to the families who have lost loved ones during this tragic storm.

I am pleased to report that all of our staff have been accounted for and are doing well under the circumstances. Many of us are still without power, but we are trying to move forward as the city slowly gets back up and running.

As with many others, our corporate headquarters at 120 Wall Street is currently inoperable due to utility interruptions. We do not know how long we will be displaced. However, operations of the national office will continue. We are currently operating out of a temporary location in Midtown New York with only essential staff.

The National Urban League Policy Institute in Washington, DC is fully operational.

Most of our Affiliates in the affected areas of Hurricane Sandy are operational or will be by Monday, Nov. 5th. Only a few affiliates are still without power (Long Island, NY; Bergen County, NJ; and Jersey City, NJ).

Please note that the Annual Board of Trustees Meeting will continue as planned on November 14th in New York City. We will advise you of a new location if our office is not available for use.

Additionally, we are moving forward as planned with our annual Equal Opportunity Day Awards Dinner on November 14th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

We will keep you posted on additional changes in operations and location of the Board Meeting.

We will advise you when we will return to our office on 120 Wall Street in New York City.

Please keep in mind that our telephones are not working at our office, but in order to contact us, please email the following:
