National Urban League's Morial Honored for Humanitarian Achievement

NEW YORK (September 13, 2012)  – National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial has received the 2012 Mickey Leland Humanitarian Achievement Award, presented by the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications.
 
The Award honoring individuals and organizations affiliated with the communications industry that demonstrate a commitment to advancing the concerns of people of color. It was established in 1992 in memory of the late Congressman from Texas for his lifelong advocacy of social justice and equality for people around the world.  
 
“It’s been my privilege to champion equity and diversity at every level of the workforce,” Morial said. “Our institutions are stronger and more effective when we make every effort to be inclusive.  I’m grateful to NAMIC not just for honoring me but for all they do for education, advocacy and empowerment.”
 
Past recipients of NAMIC's Mickey Leland Humanitarian Achievement Award include: MTV Networks; award-winning journalist and author, Charlayne Hunter-Gault; Robert L. Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television; Governor Bill Richardson, former ambassador, United Nations; award-winning journalists and CNN on-air personalities, Anderson Cooper, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Soledad O'Brien; Kweisi Mfume, former president, NAACP, and Christina Saralegui, host of the Galavision/Univision "Christina Show," among others.
