HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS FROM NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE AND COMCAST NBCUNIVERSAL PARTNER TO IMPROVE COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Volunteers from Local NUL Affiliates to Participate in Community Beautification, School Rehabilitation, and other Projects as Part of the 17th Comcast Cares Day

 

NEW YORK, NY, April 20, 2018 – The National Urban League and Comcast NBCUniversal will team up on Saturday, April 21st, to volunteer at projects across the country as part of the 17th Comcast Cares Day, Comcast’s companywide celebration of its year-round commitment to community service.  Together, NUL and Comcast NBCUniversal volunteers will work on various projects with local NUL community organizations.

This is the twelfth consecutive year that Comcast NBCUniversal will host Comcast Cares Day Projects with NUL, the nation’s oldest and largest community-based organization devoted to empowering African Americans.  Projects range from digital literacy initiatives to full-scale park renewals to school transformation efforts.  NUL volunteers will join more than 100,000 volunteers who are serving at more than 1,000 Comcast Cares Day project across the country and around the globe.  These projects include:

  • Furley Elementary School, Baltmore, MD (Baltimore Urban League) – Volunteers will beautify the school, paint classrooms, indoor and outdoor murals, tend school gardens, plant trees, and pick up trash and debris on school grounds.
  • Operation Survival Paracord Bracelets (Urban League of Broward County, FL) - Volunteers will assemble paracord bracelets that can be used as a life-saving tool in an emergency situation and also serve as an expression of support for U.S. troops.
  • City of Detroit Neighborhood Revitalization (Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan) – Volunteers will do non-structural blight removal, including neighborhood cleanup and painting in the neighborhood of 7 Mile and Van Dyke.
  • Northview Heights Family Support Center (Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh) - Volunteers will help refresh the facility inside and out, including property-wide clean-up of debris, landscaping, and cleaning the gym and children’s play areas.
