Economic Empowerment and Income Inequality: New Civil Rights Imperative

The University of New England (UNE) commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s historic 1964 visit to St. Francis College, which is now UNE's Biddeford Campus, with a semester-long series of speakers, events and community service in 2014 with the theme “The Struggle Continues.” One of the featured events/speakers:

Marc H. Morial is president and CEO of the National Urban League, the nation’s largest historic Civil Rights and Urban Advocacy organization. He has served as a Louisiana state senator, mayor of New Orleans, and as president of the bi-partisan U.S. Conference of Mayors, where he served during the 9/11 crisis and championed the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. Morial has a dual degree in Economics and African American Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
