WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 10, 2015)  – National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial today issued the following statement on the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act:
 
“Congress has come to a bipartisan compromise to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This rewrite of the law is eight years overdue.

NEW YORK (November 19, 2015) – During the 59th annual Equal Opportunity Dinner tonight, the National Urban League honored New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo  with the Empowerment Justice Award for a major criminal justice reform initiative he enacted earlier this year.

National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial called for Minneapolis police to exercise restraint in response to protests over Jamar Clark’s fatal shooting, and encouraged a prompt and open investigation of the case.
 
“The discrepancies between witness and police accounts are disturbing,” Morial said. “The community’s concern is valid and the rights of the protesters need to be respected.”
