The National Urban League will participate in the National Action Network’s (NAN) Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner with a donation of 100 dinners.  National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial and his family will make the delivery to NAN, as well as serve as volunteers for the dinner. National Urban League President Marc H. Morial sent a letter to 20 U.S. Senators calling for an up-or-down vote on the confirmation of Rep. Mel Watt as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).

In the letter, Morial calls Rep. Watts  “an advocate for homeowners and banks alike.” Citing Rep. Watts’ 40-years of experience in housing and finance, his history of promoting safe and affordable housing and speaking out against predatory lending, Morial concludes that Watt "is the man for the job.’

While the National Urban League and our 95 affiliates are relieved that a bipartisan agreement was reached to reopen the government and avoid a debt default, this is no cause for celebration.  We remain disappointed that the partisan dysfunction in Washington resulted in an avoidable and reckless government shutdown and brought us to the brink of a financial disaster.  We urge elected leaders to now return to their duty to govern on behalf of all Americans, especially those acutely impacted by the shut-down --  including the working poor, unemployed, middle class and small businesses.  As...
