The National Urban League has praised the Department of Education's proposed revision to its student loan underwriting standards. The proposed revision incorporates recommendations made earlier this year by the Urban League, HBCUs and other stakeholders to amend the interpretation of "adverse credit history" and make it easier for low-income students to obtain federal aid. In a letter to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Urban League President Marc Morial wrote:

Morial urged the agency to maintain its sports blackout rule, which he says has “worked as intended, maintaining a regulatory framework that has promoted and protected the distribution of sports programming on free, over-the-air broadcast television.”

The death of Michael Brown has exposed and exacerbated what is clearly a long-standing lack of trust between law enforcement and the Ferguson community.
