Washington, D.C. (February 12, 2018) – Today, National Urban League President and CEO, Marc H. Morial, joined national leaders of civil rights organizations to denounce the U.S. Census Bureau’s failure to change their “usual residence” rule by continuing to count incarcerated  persons at the prison of confinement instead as part of their home community in the upcoming 2020 census. This decision serves to perpetuate the practice of prison gerrymandering.

NEW YORK (February 8, 2018) -- As part of the National Urban League’s ongoing push for a fair and accurate 2020 Census, the league has enlisted a leading civic engagement expert as a Senior Advisor for the Census.

WASHINGTON, DC (February 2, 2018) – This week, a leaked version of a housing finance proposal from U.S. Senators Bob Corker (TN) and Mark Warner (VA) emerged that would severely harm America’s housing market. Today, several civil rights and affordable housing groups issued a statement on the proposal’s negative impact on access, affordability, and market stability.

National Urban League president and CEO, Marc H. Morial, released the following statement in response to President Trump’s first State of the Union address: 

 

“While encouraged by the President’s polished words and reconciliatory tone, successfully delivering a speech is not the same as effectively governing a country.  Over the past year, we have heard a lot from President Trump, but have seen very little action consistent with the unity and progress he spoke of during last night’s State of the Union address.
